Ray Tomlinson

Ray Tomlinson was an American programmer and inventor of e-mail. For the first time in the year 1971, he sent a message between two computers on the 'Arpanet system'. In 2012, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame by the Internet Society.

Daniel Fahrenheit

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the mercury-in-glass thermometer (first practical and accurate thermometer) and Fahrenheit scale (first standardized temperature scale to be widely used)

Edward Jenner

Dr Edward Jenner created the world's first successful vaccine. He found out that people infected with cowpox were immune to smallpox. In May 1796, English physician Edward Jenner expands on this discovery and inoculates 8-year-old James Phipps with matter collected from a cowpox sore on the hand of a milkmaid.

George Eastman

The first successful roll-film hand camera, the Kodak, was launched publicly in the summer of 1888. Inventor George Eastman received a patent (number 388,850) for the camera's shutter and the trademark (number 15,825) for the Kodak name on September 4, 1888.

Alexander Graham Bell

John J. Loud

An American, John J Loud, received the first patent for a ballpoint pen back in 1888. Loud, a lawyer and occasional inventor, wanted an ink pen which would be able to write on rougher materials such as wood and leather as well as paper. His masterstroke was the revolving steel ball, which was held in place by a socket

Alfred Nobel

Dynamite is an explosive made of nitroglycerin, sorbents, and stabilizers. It was invented by the Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Nobel in Geesthacht, Northern Germany, and patented in 1867. It rapidly gained wide-scale use as a more robust alternative to black powder.

The Wright Brothers

Wilbur and Orville Wright spent four years of research and development to create the first successful powered airplane, the 1903 Wright Flyer. It first flew at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903, with Orville at the controls.

John stith Pemberton

John Stith Pemberton was an American pharmacist and Confederate States Army veteran who is best known as the inventor of Coca-Cola. In May 1886, he developed an early version of a beverage that would later become Coca-Cola, but sold his rights to the drink shortly before his death in 1888.
