Chandrayaan-3 consists of an indigenous Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM) and a Rover with an objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for Inter planetary missions.

615 crores

This does not include the cost of the launch vehicle, but does include the cost of the Land Rover and propulsion module. Apart from this, the cost of launch service was 365 crores, so the cost of the entire mission is around 615 crores or about 75 million dollars.

Chandrayaan-3 is carrying seven scientific payloads, four installed on the lander, two on rover, and one on the propulsion module that is going around the Moon in an orbit.

Pragyan

Launched on 14 July 2023, the mission consists of a lunar lander named Vikram and a lunar rover named Pragyan, similar to those launched aboard Chandrayaan-2 in 2019.

LVM-3

The launcher identified for Chandrayaan-3 is LVM3 M4 which will place the integrated module in an Elliptic Parking Orbit (EPO) of size ~170 x 36500 km. The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 are: To demonstrate Safe and Soft Landing on Lunar Surface.

14 July 2023

Launched on 14 July 2023, the mission consists of a lunar lander named Vikram and a lunar rover named Pragyan, similar to those launched aboard Chandrayaan-2 in 2019. SATCAT no. Chandrayaan-3 was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre on 14 July 2023.

Making a soft landing on the lunar surface

"Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Of the three mission objectives, demonstration of safe and soft landing on the lunar surface has been accomplished," ISRO said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The goal of roaming the rover on the Moon has been achieved. Scientific experiments are continuing under the third objective.
