Legendary athlete PT Usha on 10 December was elected as the first woman president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA). A multiple Asian Games gold medalist and fourth place finisher in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics 400m hurdles final, the 58-year-old Usha was declared elected unopposed for the top post in the polls. 

The elections were held under the supervision of Supreme Court-appointed retired SC judge L Nageswara Rao.

As per details, Usha's election to the top job marked an end to the long drawn crisis in the faction-ridden IOA, which was warned of a possible suspension by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) if elections are not held this month. However, the polls were originally due to be held in December 2021.

PT Usha all set to become first woman president of Indian Olympic Association

PT Usha has been elected to become the president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Kiren Rijiju has said. The Minister of Law and Justice of India made the announcement on Twitter while congratulating the legendary Indian athlete.

Other important appointment in the IOA:

  • Apart from Usha, Ajay Patel of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has been elected unopposed as senior vice-president. Olympic medalist shooter Gagan Narang and Rowing Federation of India president Rajlaxmi Singh Deo have been elected unopposed as vice presidents.
  • Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) president Sahdev Yadav has been elected the treasurer. All India Football Federation (AIFF) president and former goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey has been elected unopposed as the joint secretary (male).
  • Alaknanda Ashok of Badminton Association of India (BAI) was elected as joint secretary (female) after emerging winner in a three-way battle. Shalini Thakur Chawla and Suman Kaushik were also in the fray.

    About the PT USHA:

  • She is fondly known as the ‘Payyoli Express’, Usha became the first Olympian and first international medallist to head the IOA in its 95-year-old history.
  • She is also the first sportsperson to have represented the country and also become IOA chief since Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, who played a Test match in 1934. Singh was the third IOA president who held office from 1938 to 1960.

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE Date Sheet 2023 would release soon. CBSE officials on Sunday warned the students regarding the fake CBSE Date Sheet 2023 doing rounds on social media. "The multiple versions of datasheets doing the round are fake. The exam schedule will soon be announced and the students and parents should wait for official information," a senior board official said.

CBSE Board exam date sheet 2023 for classes 10th and 12th will release on the official website--cbse.gov.in. Students are advised to rely only on the CBSE Board exam timetable released on the official website.

"The practical examinations will begin from January 1 and schools have been directed to complete the syllabus for these till then. The practical examinations for Class 12 will only be conducted by external examiners appointed by the board, while for Class 10, these will be conducted by internal examiners," said the CBSE officials.

Students and parents can regularly check the notifications to get more updates. The board is yet to officially announce the CBSE Class 10 and 12 Board Exam Date Sheet 2023. The board has requested the parents and students not to panic and believe in any such version of the CBSE Board Exam Date Sheet 2023 seen on social media.

The U.S. The Treasury (United States of America's Finance Ministry) has printed the first US banknotes (currency notes) with two women's signatures.  The new currency notes of $1 and $5 value carry the signature of the Secretary of Treasury (American Finance Minister) Janet Yellen and Lynn Malerba. The United States currency notes are popularly  called as Greenback.

Lynn Malerba is Native American and is the chief of the Mohegan Tribe, who holds the position of Treasurer of the United States within the Department of Treasury, United States government.

Janet Yellen is a former chairman of the United States Central Bank, Federal Reserve of New York. She was the first female head of the Federal Reserve.

In the United States the currency notes are printed by the Treasury Department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Federal Reserve decides how much currency notes will be printed.

The Treasury Department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing has note printing facilities at Fort Worth, Texas and another in Washington.

Who is Lynn Malerba?

Lynn Malerba is Native American and is the chief of the Mohegan Tribe, who holds the position of Treasurer of the United States within the Department of Treasury, United States government.

Who is Janet Yellen?

Janet Yellen is a former chairman of the United States Central Bank, Federal Reserve of New York. She was the first female head of the Federal Reserve.

England’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler was named ICC men’s Player of the Month for the first time following his stupendous show in November. Pakistan’s Sidra Ameen became the second successive winner of the women’s Player of the Month award from the country, thanks to her brilliant performance in the ODI series win over Ireland.

Buttler, who is one of the destructive batters in white-ball cricket in the world, beat Adil Rashid and Shaheen Shah Afridi to win the ICC Player of the Month award for his brilliant performance in the crunch semi-final match against India and leading England to their first T20 World Cup title since 2010.

England opener smashed 73 from 47 balls against New Zealand, and then 80 from 49 balls, as well stitched unbeaten 170-run partnership with Alex Hales during England’s victory in the semi-final against India before making a valuable 26 in the final against Pakistan to guide the side to T20 World Cup title.

ICC Women’s Player of the month award for November: Sidra Ameen

Sidra Ameen beat Ireland’s Gaby Lewis and Thailand’s Natthakan Chantam to win the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for her outstanding performance against Ireland in the ODI series, where she amassed 277 runs in three matches at home. She became the second Pakistani cricketer after Mohammad Rizwan (September) to win this award.
