Overview
Human Rights Day 2022:
Human Rights day is celebrated every year on December 10 to create awareness and mobilize will to promote respect for the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.
The day celebrates and advocates for rights that cut across the distinctions of nationality, gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any other status. This year marks the 74th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR and the 72nd Human Rights Day.
Why is Human Rights Day celebrated?
Human Rights Day is celebrated with the aim of making people aware of their rights. Human rights also include the right to health, economic, social, and education. Human rights are those fundamental natural rights from which human beings cannot be deprived or oppressed on the basis of race, caste, nationality, religion, gender etc.
Human Rights Day 2022: Theme
This year the theme for the Human Rights Day 2022 is “Dignity, Freedom and Justice For All. The Declaration and the Constitution both declare that health is a fundamental right for everyone.
Human Rights Day: History
Human Rights Day was formally instituted in 1950 after the UNGA passed resolution 423 (V). Under the resolution, the Assembly had invited all states (members and non-members) and interested organisations to observe this day to celebrate the proclamation of the UDHR and exert increasing efforts in this field of human progress. Over the past decade, Human Rights Day has taken up topics such as discrimination, diversity, education, freedom, poverty, torture, and equality.
Celebration of “Universal Health Coverage (UHAC) Day 2022” in Varanasi

Overview
Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is organizing a two days conclave commemorating the “Universal Coverage Day (UHC) 2022” on 10th and 11th December 2022 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Smt. Anandiben Patel, Hon. Governor, Uttar Pradesh will inaugurate the two-day celebrations in presence of Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State (HFW), Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar. The venue for this event will be International Cooperation and Convention Centre Rudraksh Hall. The event will be graced by Health Ministers from various States. In addition, State Officials including ACS/Principal Secretary, Health, Mission Directors NHM, Director Health; 900 Community Health Officers/ Incharge of Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) and Medical Officers from 5 States Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttrakhand, national experts and Development and Implementing Partners supporting the rollout of AB-HWCs will also participate in the two-days conclave. More than 1200 participants will participate in the conference at Varanasi.
About the conferences:
- The program will be organized at International Co-operation and Convention Center Rudraksh Hall. Health ministers of different states will participate in the programme.
- During the event at Varanasi, the 1st Regional Community Health Officers (CHO) Conference for Northern India will be held. Concerned government officials from the medical field from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand will take part in the regional conference.
- Universal Health Coverage (UHC) aims that ‘all people have access to needed promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that people do not suffer financial hardship when paying for these services’.

For Constructive Works
- Nilesh Desai of Madhya Pradesh has been chosen for the Jamnalal Bajaj award for Constructive Works. He is the founder of the Sampark Samaj Sevi Sansthan which works for the upliftment of the Bhil Community.
Award for Application of Science and Technology for Rural Development:
- Mansukhbhai Prajapati of Gujarat was awarded the Jamnalal Bajaj award for Application of Science and Technology for Rural Development. He was selected for his innovation and entrepreneurship in bringing traditional pottery making into the mainstream. His company Mitticool produces clay products and clay pots .He has helped the rural artisans making clay pottery to find new markets and business.
Award for Development and Welfare of Women and Children:
- Sophia Saik of Odisha was awarded the Jamnalal Bajaj award for Development and Welfare of Women and Children. She is a social service activist who works for women empowerment and gender rights. She is a prominent activist for women beedi workers in Odisha.
International Award for Promoting Gandhian Values outside India:
- Dr Ogirat Younan and Dr Walid Slyabi of Lebanon was awarded the Jamnalal Bajaj award for Promoting Gandhian Values outside India.
- They are the founders of the Academic University College for Non-Violence and Human Rights. They are the pioneers of non-violence in Lebanon and Arab world and spreading the Gandhaian ideas in the region.
About the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation:
