International Day of Sport for Development and Peace: History
During its 67th session, the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 67/296 on August 23, 2013, officially designating April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The resolution was published on September 18 of the same year, with support from the International Olympic Committee. The creation of this day was inspired by previous UN resolutions, including the International Year of Sport and the Olympic Ideal, the Olympic Truce, and the Olympic Ideal, all of which aimed to leverage the power of sports to promote a more peaceful world. The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace serves as a platform to highlight the critical role of sports in promoting sustainable development, social cohesion, and international cooperation.
