Morgan Stanley has appointed Arun Kohli as the new head of its India operations, replacing the retiring Sanjay Shah, a 26-year veteran of the firm. Kohli, who currently serves as COO for EMEA, will lead the bank's business in India, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News. Having been with Morgan Stanley since 2007, Kohli will move from London to Mumbai, where he oversaw the firm's post-Brexit strategy and implemented growth plans across multiple markets in the region.
Morgan Stanley has been offering its services in India for 29 years, offering a range of services including investment banking, fixed income, commodities, and derivative products, as per information on its website. Sanjay Shah joined the company as an associate in 1996 and worked his way up the ranks, eventually being named the country head in 2021. He started his journey with the firm in the institutional equities division in Mumbai.
In 2021, Morgan Stanley selected Kamal Yadav and Sachin Wagle as co-heads of investment banking in India and named Samarth Jagnani as the new head of global capital markets in the country. A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the information contained in the memo.
