At the 2023 FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Finals, FIH President Tayyab Ikram awarded the FIH President's Award to VK Pandian, Secretary to the Chief Minister of Odisha, for his outstanding contributions to hockey. The FIH President emphasized the important role played by both CM Naveen Patnaik and VK Pandian in successfully hosting the Hockey World Cup.

Odisha’s VK Pandian honored with FIH President’s Award 2023- Key Points

• The FIH President's Award honors individuals, National Associations, and organizations for their significant contributions to hockey, either directly or indirectly, or for initiatives that have impacted the sport at the international level.
• During the ceremony, the FIH President spoke highly of Odisha, saying they had witnessed an exceptional phase there. The state-of-the-art facilities and the passion of the people, who supported not only the Indian team but all other teams as well, had been a true delight to experience.
• VK Pandian expressed his deep honor and humility in receiving the award, stating that he was merely a representative of Team Odisha, who had dedicated their hearts and souls to making the World Cup a great success.
• Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey also praised VK Pandian's two-decade-long contribution to sports, particularly hockey. He emphasized that VK Pandian was well-versed in the needs of sportspersons and always worked to provide the best facilities. His critical role in realizing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's vision of making Odisha a leading sports destination was greatly appreciated.

 

On January 31st, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the 31st Foundation Day of the National Commission for Women in Delhi. The theme of the event was "Empowered Women, Empowered India," recognizing and honoring the achievements of women who have left a lasting impact.

• The National Commission for Women celebrated its 31st Foundation Day with a two-day event on January 31st and February 1st, 2023. On the second day, a panel discussion featuring inspiring women was held.
• The Commission seeks to provide a diverse platform for discussions on gender equality, specifically in the areas of decision-making and leadership for women from varying socio-economic backgrounds.
• NCW was established in January 1992 as a statutory body under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990. Its purpose is to evaluate constitutional and legal protections for women, suggest legislative remedies, assist in resolving grievances, and advise the government on policy matters that impact women.

The commission was formed in response to the widespread violation of women's human rights, including violence against women, which is a violation of a fundamental right that transcends nations, societies, cultures, and classes. Morgan Stanley named Arun Kohli as the new India head

Morgan Stanley has appointed Arun Kohli as the new head of its India operations, replacing the retiring Sanjay Shah, a 26-year veteran of the firm. Kohli, who currently serves as COO for EMEA, will lead the bank's business in India, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News. Having been with Morgan Stanley since 2007, Kohli will move from London to Mumbai, where he oversaw the firm's post-Brexit strategy and implemented growth plans across multiple markets in the region.

Morgan Stanley has been offering its services in India for 29 years, offering a range of services including investment banking, fixed income, commodities, and derivative products, as per information on its website. Sanjay Shah joined the company as an associate in 1996 and worked his way up the ranks, eventually being named the country head in 2021. He started his journey with the firm in the institutional equities division in Mumbai.

In 2021, Morgan Stanley selected Kamal Yadav and Sachin Wagle as co-heads of investment banking in India and named Samarth Jagnani as the new head of global capital markets in the country. A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the information contained in the memo.
